The world of mobility and transport is changing very fast. There are exciting developments in vehicle technology (electric propulsion, driver support systems, automated driving), mobility and traffic support (support in mode choice and routing assistance, payment systems, traffic management), and in society (sharing economy, urbanisation, demographics, views on equity, health and sustainability). While each of these will already have significant impact, together they may completely change our reasons for traveling, the way we travel and how we perceive travel time. Moreover, while new mobility and transport concepts and services emerge, the more ‘traditional’ suppliers seek to significantly improve the flexibility, efficiency and quality of their products and services. All in all, this will result in an unprecedented pace in developments in road, rail, water, air and intermodal transport.
Researchers at the TU Delft engage in these fields of research, addressing concrete and urgent challenges and working closely with researchers worldwide as well as with public and private partners.
Partners include the Amsterdam Institute of Advanced Metropolitan Solutions (AMS), SmartPort Rotterdam, Rotterdam – Den Haag transport authority, various municipalities, TNO, the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment, Rijkswaterstaat, the Netherlands Vehicle Authority (RDW), multinationals, SMEs, Port of Rotterdam, Schiphol Airport, ProRail and various universities of applied sciences.
